At California Enduro, weve been running and promoting mountain bike enduro races since 2010. Timing mountain bike enduro races is challenging. There are many timing systems available - chip/tag based systems that are very expensive, and general purpose software that can be difficult to setup/use for timing a mountain bike enduro race. So, over the years we developed our own chip-based timing software specifically focused on mountain bike enduro races. While chip timing has many advantages - chip timing hardware is expensive, and not economically viable for many race organizers. So we wanted to provide a more economical alternative that can leverage our software without the chip timing hardware.

The Race Center app combined with the California Enduro Timing app are simple and cost effective alternative for Mountain Bike Enduro race timing (or any individual start stage race event).

There are four main pages on the Race Center app - Rider Checkin, Race Results, Scrolling Results, and Admin page.

On the Race Center app - youll set up the race on the Admin page. You can download a race setup on the California Enduro online system, or you can create a race on the device. If downloading a race - enter the Event ID, click Apply to validate, and then Download Racers and Categories - the race is setup and ready to go. If creating a race in the app - click the Manage Categories button to add your race categories.

With the race setup - go to the Rider Checkin page. This is the first place you start at the race - checking in riders. If you downloaded a race, the rider list is already loaded - if you are doing this on the device, you can use the Add Rider button to add your racers to the list.

On the Rider Checkin page - you tap on a row to bring up the rider checkin page - or can scroll the table, or use the search bar to filter the table. Tap on the row to bring up that riders info - you can review/update their category, their number plate, and any additional registration information you loaded into the online system. On the screen shots we loaded Emergency Contact info, Tshirt size they ordered, and if they are camping. As you check inthe riders, their row will be highlighted in yellow to visually indicate they are checked - and the rider count at the top of the page increments.

When the race has begun, you move to the race results page. At this point, we are waiting for the timing team to come back from the race with the start and finish times on the California Enduro Timing app.

When the devices come in, you can airdrop the data from each device - make sure they have the correct timing point setup "Stage 1 Start", "Stage 1 Finish", "Stage 2 Start", "Stage 2 Finish", etc. You can then AirDrop the data from the California Enduro Timing app to the Race Center app. As the data is loaded each stage will appear on the Race Results page. AirDrop "Stage 1 Start" and then "Stage 1 Finish" and the stage 1 times will appear. Same for Stage 2, Stage 3, etc. The order you upload doesnt matter.

On the Race Results page - you can review the results. If you tap on a row on the results table, it will bring up that riders detailed results. You can review/update start and finish times - or add a penalty or disqualify (DQ) a rider for an infraction.

On the top of the Race Results page, you also see the icon to AirDrop a csv file with the full results.

When you are done with the results, you can switch to the Results Scroll page. This page will present the results for each category, and scroll from one category to the next. You can connect the iPad to a display or TV showing this screen so racers can see the results - an alternative to printing and posting the results on paper.

When you are all done, you can go back to the Admin page to upload the race results to the online system and have them presented on the results website.
